“No pain, No gain”

That often (over) quoted cliche has been applied to many different areas of skill development. The saying originated in the fitness world, but has been applied everything from persoanl development to the pursuit of hobbies.

“No pain, no gain” …nonsense. There are many examples of developing skills just as fast (perhaps even faster) by enjoying the process that by painfully slogging through.

Public speaking is actually on of those pursuits. Granted, some people perceive public speaking as a painful pursuit, however many things are painful when your not ready for them. Public speaking is something that is easy to get ready for and can be very pleasurable (profitable? professionally rewarding?) as well.

Public Speaking The Easy Way

Here’s a very short yet very enlightening article by Jeff Haden that offers some simple, easy yet unusual tips on how to improve your public speaking and become a better speaker. The first tips, in my opinion, is the easiest and most powerful:

5 Unusual Ways to Become a Better Speaker

Unfortunately, captivating an audience is definitely a skill that takes years to develop and hone. Since you don’t have that kind of time, here are five unconventional ways to become a better speaker almost overnight:

http://www.inc.com/jeff-haden/5-unusual-ways-to-become-a-better-speaker.html

Becoming better in Public Speaking isn’t hard. The easier you make it, the better you get.

My training style went though a radical change after I met and studied with Mel Silberman, the Father of Active training.

Mel is considered one of the greatest contributors to the field of adult training, has written many of the best selling books on training and had been a tireless advocate for “learning by doing”.

So why is this important to influence? Well, with the thousands of books on influence, persuasion and sales, most of the focus is on talk or verbal persuasion.

Yet recent research has shown that one of the most power forms of influence is experience…allowing someone to actually have an experience rather than a verbal description (this is why demonstrations are so powerful).

Influence resources by the experts

In the video below, David Maxfield is the coauthor of Influencer: The Power to Change Anything gives a real life example of how experience influenced a change in behavior for an entire company:

Although different in approach, many of the principles research by Dr. Robert Cialdini, author of Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion require creating or referring experience.

In the video below, Dr. Cialdini explains his principles if influence:

When thinking about influence, consider the types of experiences you can create whether you are looking to influence change in yourself or influence change in others.

Through analysis and review of the research, these experts can help the process of influence become easier and more effective.

While looking for well written articles on change, I came across a little gem (with ballons no less) that addresses two of my favorite subject change (limiting beliefs) and careers.

Change can be dramatic and long lasting when a limiting belief is altered.

Many people’s limiting beliefs are rooted in the language they use internally (yes, we all do talk to ourselves). This internal language is usually not helpful and can be changed through a process called “reframing”. Reframing is the art/science of creating a change with a statement related to langauge being used.

Reframing Limiting Beliefs for change

In this little gem of an article, six limiting beliefs about career are addressed. See if you can recognize any of these limiting beliefs in your “internal language” and read the reframe to find ourt for yourself if you gain a new perspective:

How to reframe six career-limiting beliefs | Zaykar Global Ventures

zaykar.com12/8/11

But career experts point out that your beliefs really do influence outcomes. Unless you first believe you can and will find the job or career you want, you’ll end up defeating yourself. Here are six common career-limiting beliefs …

If you’re looking to change the way you think about your career, these reframes may work for you…or not. However, with the variety of new and different perspectives, you might gain some insight in how you can change your own limiting beliefs in a new way.

How many times in your life have you walked out of a first encounter with another person feeling you could have done things differently?

In addition to what we say, there are things we could have done (or even taking the time to notice) that would have made the encounter more positive, effective or advantageous four ourselves.

And very few of these encounters are as critical as career encounters.

Career Toolbox

The article below from Careerealism.com, the article proposes adding a new skill to your arsenal of relational tools, situational awareness. Situational awareness is not about being self conscious, it’s about paying attention. And paying attention requires practice.

You’ll find when practicing situational awareness that your stress level goes down and you’re able to access a variety of other skills. And you’ll have a better chance for more positive career opportunities.

In today’s hyper-competitive job market, adding a new skill (for free) to your career toolbox can make the difference between frustration or success.

Personal development is the pursuit of learning, developing, honing and mastering the skills that help you become the best that you can, with all that you have. It is the reaching for, and realizing of your full potential as a human being.

You want to live a full, productive life, but sometimes, you just don’t know where to begin. There is so much information ‘out there’ that it can be overwhelming and hard to choose what is right for you.

Depending on your concerns what seems to work for one person, may not necessarily work for you. There are so many different ideas, strategies, advice and techniques that it’s hard to chose the right one.

One thing, however, is certain. If you want to achieve anything in your life and realize your full potential, you must have some practical and positive skills – life skills.

In order to excel at work, in a sport or in your relationships, you must acquire and master certain skills. Living your life fully, productively and with enjoyment is no different.

Crucially possessing life skills enables you to deal with the life’s inevitable challenges and adversities more effectively. It reduces your chances of procrastinating, finding yourself getting frustrated and stressed, engaging in addictive behaviors, and experiencing overall despair and hopelessness. When you have the proper tools and actions at your disposal, you have more control over your life and time making you happier and more confident.

Taking the first steps

Your first step is establishing a firm foundation. That foundation must be “you”. You need to know who you are, what you want, and what you are capable of. You must then determine which values, goals and principles you will establish to guide your actions.

Learning about and applying essential life skills will help you. It will help you to:

know and understand yourself better
live life more consciously and deliberately to attain personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

The hardest part in dealing with any major challenge is taking the first step, however once you do, there is a surprising positive and snowball effect. You will begin to feel good about what you’re doing and you’ll want to take further steps. You will want to keep improving yourself and to become the very best that you can be.

Your continuing journey of personal development will make you aware that there is so much more knowledge and information to be discovered, and uncovered, than you ever thought possible – knowledge about yourself, knowledge about others, knowledge about life and the world around you. A fantastic life experience controlled by you, if you make a start.

Personal development is about wanting and pursuing new experiences, knowledge and excellent relationships. Nothing should be left out in your pursuit of finding your future self and life fulfillment.

timechampions.com desire the best for you and what you want.

To support you and encourage you in your pursuit of improvement and in expanding your confidence, timechampions suggest you to read and explore every area of interest that excites you.

Read inspirational quotes, and personal development articles that include helpful tips and actions, as well as other interesting advice.

The good news is that acquiring essential life skills will not only contribute to your personal growth and development, it will make you a more interesting and dynamic individual.

Why are these new skills and experiences essential?

Without them you will always feel that something is missing in your life. What good is all the financial success in the world if you don’t have self-confidence, or know who you really are, what you want, or what you’re doing here? We’ve all witnessed many outwardly successful and famous people who have not been able to find personal happiness. No amount of fame or fortune could fill the void they felt inside.

Your steps to achieve more of your development potential confirm that it is important to follow a plan that includes actions to:

Develop a healthy self esteem

Starting from where you are right now by

Knowing yourself

Learn to love yourself

Always be true to yourself.

Develop a personal value system

Keeping an honest perspective on life

Keep an open mind

Develop and keep a sense of humour

Show resilience

Accept the reality of your situation and the world.

Use your time effectively:

Don’t procrastinate

Develop clear realistic and personal goals

Have a daily priority plan

Make time for you and your family, friends

Find a hobby or pastime and enjoy it

Work to minimize your experience of stress

Fill any TIME GAPS with useful action:

Enjoy gardening even if it just a window box

Take on board a hobby that brings you in contact with others

Make new friends by joining local social groups

Start a course of learning something that you will enjoy

Your health is vital so do exercise, (within the limits of your current ability) diet or join a health club

Develop new relationships even use Dating opportunities

Undertake serious study to enhance your expertise and help your brain to develop

Develop Speed reading to open up opportunities to help others or earn extra cash

Undertake DIY projects.

Take affordable and enjoyable holidays

Make money at home internet€“ home tasks

The opportunities to develop yourself fill the internet, books, advice centers and your friends.

CHOOSE THOSE THAT WILL BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE AND MAKE YOU OPTIMISTIC ABOUT YOUR FUTURE.

Good Luck!!

If the change in career is frequent then it is important and better to know about career development.

The steps taken towards choosing a career can also be defined as career development. It is a career path that trains you to choose the best for your life. Career development includes testing a person’s stress manageability, preparation and training to enter a career and inherent skills. It is also important to advance in the present career and to know how good you are at changing directions that leads to a betterment in the career. A well updated and rich knowledge will prove to be very helpful in career development.

While considering an individual’s current situation it is very significant to know about career development. Some people work for the money they are paid. This might lead to an unhappy employee, an I don’t mind attitude towards work and overwhelming stress levels. Such should not be the attitude of an employee. Hence it is always better that you love your job, this is possible only if you notice a development in what you work at. Ultimately career development is what matters.

To learn more on the field we pursue, shows the interest we have on our work. This involves online or traditional classes, self study taking help from a mentor, knowing about career requirements and proceeding to study further even after the job is fixed. Hence a continual working and learning process will be indeed helpful.

It is good to try to have a hundred percent knowledge on your career which will make you feel the job easy however strenuous they would seem. This would decrease the stress levels. The product of such commitment would be a happy employee and an excellent work.

Education and learning are alone not all about career development. They help in deciding people whether the job they are in, suits them. You have to prove yourself a trustable employee and produce what you are expected to.

Many colleges, universities, institutes and schools take classes that teach about career development and train us for nearly any occupation. Subjects like career education and creating resumes are taken for senior and junior students of eighth grade and higher grades. Teachers and student councilors help students in deciding what they would want to become.

Ultimately learning about career development and about how they would help us is profitable, whether you change your career or else advance in the career you are already in.
